Red Apple Lipstick Brand Review

Boy was I excited to come home and find a package from Red Apple Lipstick in my mailbox!  I have been wanting to try these products because they are vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and paraben-free.  These products were sent to me to try and review.  This company not only sells lipsticks, but eyeshadows, and other cosmetics, too!

The first product I received was a lipstick.  Being that I love Audrey Hepburn, I just had to try the color, "Audrey," that they named after her.  It is a warm neutral pink.  It is a little warmer than the picture that appears on their website. But, it's still very pretty.  It's actually very close to my natural lip color.  I would like to try a cooler and brighter pink for the summer, maybe the color "Sugar Sugar."  I love how creamy, shiny, and moisturizing this lipstick is!  And, it smells so good and fruity! I would love to try a lip gloss, too!

The second product I received was a Z-Palette, containing the colors "Champagne" and "Dirty Girl."
I was especially excited to receive the "Champagne" color.  It was at the top of my wish list!  It applied a little darker than I expected, but it's still a nice, light neutral.  It applies so smoothly, and it has a pretty sheen to it.  It's not glittery, but has a nice shine.

Maybe I forgot to read the description, but I was surprised that "Dirty Girl" was so green in the package!  However, when I applied it, it ended up being a mushroomy neutral, that I applied in the crease of my eyes with the "Champagne."  I don't think I would purchase that particular color again, but I love the consistency of these eyeshadows.  I definitely have a wishlist of more colors I would like to try!

My Eyeshadow Wishlist
- Buttercream
- Porcelain
- Violet Vintage
- Graphite Glam
- Silver Lining
- Iced Mocha
- Espresso
- Blue Jay

These products are beautiful, but unfortunately out of my price range.  However, if you're able to afford them, or need gluten-free cosmetics, they are well worth the price!

Thank you, Red Apple Lipstick!

Vegan 2-Ingredient Strawberry Banana Ice Cream

I promise...you really only need two ingredients to make this amazing vegan Strawberry Banana Ice Cream!  My friends couldn't believe it the first time I posted a picture of my Ice Cream made from just bananas. They had to try it for themselves!  Then we started brainstorming the endless possibilities of flavors!  I thought I'd share this one with you, because it's a quick and easy way to have a special treat without the dairy!

All you need is two *over ripe* frozen bananas and three or four frozen strawberries.  I just peel the bananas, wash and hull the strawberries, throw them in a plastic bag, and freeze them overnight.  The bananas need to be over ripe or your ice cream won't be as sweet and creamy. I know this from experience.

Then, you throw them all in a food processor (I used my Ninja.) and blend until it becomes a nice creamy consistency, without chunks.

Serve and enjoy! This serves 2-3 people. When you think about it, you could actually have this for breakfast.  It's just strawberries and bananas.  I'll bet your kids would award you "Parent of the Year" for serving them "ice cream" for breakfast. ;)

Are you brainstorming flavor ideas, too?  I'm thinking Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Banana Bread flavors are next on my list.  I would love to hear your flavor ideas in the comments below!

What I Like Wednesday

For the past few weeks, I have been purchasing this Chocolate Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert, Made with Coconut Milk from Trader Joe's. I have been shopping at Trader Joe's for a looong time.  I have no idea why I've waited so long to try this.  I also tried the Strawberry, which has a bright and vibrant flavor.  But, the Chocolate is so decadent and fudgy! It's the flavor I keep repurchasing.  It's a perfect vegan treat!

Are you a chocolate or a strawberry person? Let me know in the comments below!

Gluten-Free Grocery Haul

Hi Everyone! I hope your Monday is off to a great start! I thought I'd do a gluten-free grocery haul for you.  I've been eating mostly gluten-free lately.  I'm not extremely strict about it, and I don't have Celiac Disease, but I do have some different reactions to either wheat, gluten, or yeast that I'm trying to pinpoint. If you're interested in hearing more about these reactions, let me know in the comments below, and I'll do a separate post explaining them.  For now, here are some of the gluten-free products I've been purchasing, with descriptions in the captions.

I didn't grow up in a vegetarian or vegan home.
These actually remind me of the pork rinds my dad and grandfather would get as snacks when I was a child.

These are not labeled gluten-free, due to being processed on equipment with wheat.  But, they're fine for me to eat, being that I don't have Celiac Disease. I usually dip them in hummus.

I was really excited to find these brown rice pasta shells.  I'm usually only able to find rotini and penne at Trader Joe's.
It's nice to have some variety.  I purchased these on sale at Kroger.

I bought these protein powder samples at Whole Foods.  They are vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.  I wanted to try small samples before I commit to purchasing a full size container.  I plan to mix these with either almond or coconut milk.

I eat these waffles before work, topped with fresh strawberries.  I love them!
They are wheat-free, gluten-free, and yeast-free.

This cereal is my second choice for breakfast.  I actually eat it as a snack, too!  It's lightly sweetened.
It reminds me of a waffle cone for ice cream.

I have heard so many good things about these Engine 2 brown rice tortillas.  I plan to use them whenever we have tacos for dinner, or when I want a vegetable wrap for lunch. Click here for more information about the Engine 2 Diet.
These were purchased at Whole Foods.

Vegetarian Dining Guide for Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

My husband and I have been to Washington D.C. many times, but never at just the right time to see the Cherry Blossoms.  We decided to take a Spring Break trip to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. about two weeks ago.  As you can see from my first photo, the Cherry Blossoms were definitely in full bloom!  In fact, it was snowing Cherry Blossom petals!

Of course, a lot of our vacations revolve around food. We like to eat! I thought I'd put together a list of restaurants where you can find vegetarian or vegan food in the Baltimore/D.C. area.

527 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21201

You can tell by the decor that Style Magazine was right to call this place "drop dead sexy."  This is a perfect restaurant for vegans and vegetarians.  They have huge salads!  You choose the ingredients, and they pile them on a cutting board (including the dressing), and chop them with a mezzaluna. The employees were very nice.  And since I didn't care for meat on my salad, they let me choose an extra veggie! The weather was perfect, and we sat outside at one of their cute patio tables.

221 S. High Street. Baltimore, MD

Isabella's will always have a special place in my heart, not just because they have amazing pizza, but because I met new friends there who taught me how to play Bocce Ball in the alley behind the restaurant.  The Magherita pizza was one of the best pizzas I've ever had.  We just sat outside on a bench, and ate it right off the pan.  This is one place I hope to visit again...and soon!

I had a lot of delicious food in D.C., also.  I had heard so much about Georgetown Cupcakes, and I really wanted to try one!  We got there and the line was down. the. street. No thank you! So we ate here instead:

3423 M St. NW
Washington, DC 20007

I am so much more a pie lover than a cake lover.  I was so excited when we found Pie Sisters.  They have the cutest little pie cups called "cuppies." I had a cherry pie cuppy, and boy was it good!

4. Gloria's Pupuseria
3411 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20010

My husband found this restaurant, and I'm so glad he did!  Gloria's is a tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant, with the most delicious Pupusas!  Pupusas are El Salvadoran corn cakes filled with beans and cheese.  They were served a cabbage slaw that was topped with salsa.  It was the perfect combination and a light lunch!

The next two restaurants were recommended to me by Leslie Durso

2021 14th St, NW
Washington, D.C. 20009

Busboys and Poets is a trendy, loud, and busy restaurant/bookstore, where you can eat your lunch on a couch.  It was a fun place to eat!  I had an Avocado and Havarti sandwich.  This place offers plenty of vegan and vegetarian options!

Treats from Sticky Fingers are vegan and contain healthier ingredients than most sweets.  I love that they list all of their ingredients on their website. They are also 2x winners of the show Cupcake Wars. My chocolate brownie was so thick and chewy and good.  And of course, I loved the little Cherry Blossom on top!

7. Bistro Bohem
600 Florida Ave NW
Washington DC 20001

We stopped at Bistro Bohem for breakfast one morning.  I'm a tea lover, so I had a little pot of Lemon-Vanilla tea with my croissant.  Ahhh, the tea was so good! Bistro Bohem, if you're reading, will you please share what brand of tea you serve?

Our breakfast was so good and the atmosphere was so pleasant, we went back for dinner that night!
We had delicious Pierogie with a cheese and paprika sauce, and a side of sauerkraut.  Oh my gosh, was that sauerkraut good!  I even love the neighborhood this restaurant is in.  We sat out on the patio, where they had blankets in case it got cold.

If you want to see what I had for dessert at Bistro Bohem, follow me on Instagram, where I posted a picture! @artoveandtea

Picture taken on my phone.  I loved the teapot!

The whole trip was so relaxing and fun!  We did a lot of eating.  Good thing I also did a lot of bike riding!

World's Cutest Shopping List

Anthropologie is one of my favorite places to shop when I go to NYC.  They have such cute dishes and unique gifts.  That's usually where I buy souvenirs from my trips.  Over spring break, I went to Washington DC to see the Cherry Blossoms for a short vacation.  So, I decided to stop in the Anthropologie in Old Town Alexandria, VA. When I saw this magnetic notepad, I knew it would be my souvenir from this trip.  I really like that it's big (6" x 9").  I think I'll be less likely to lose my grocery list, like I sometimes do!

What do you think? Isn't it cute?

Forget the Peeps! I Want Dandies!

I have had a craving for S'mores for while now, but I didn't want to eat the gelatin that marshmallows are made of.  Gelatin comes from the bones and connective tissues of animals, and that kind of grosses me out!  I had seen these "Dandies" in Whole Foods before.  I think they were around $6.00, and I thought that was just too expensive.  One day recently, I found them on sale, but still not cheap. I decided to try them, and I'm so glad I did!

I thought I should try one in case they weren't good, and I needed to buy regular back-up marshmallows for my S'mores.  I'm not kidding you, they are the best things I've ever tasted in my life! And, they're vegan, gluten-free, gelatin-free, tree nut- and peanut-free, wheat-free, and dairy-free!

I don't care if they are $6.00, these will be the ones I buy next time I need marshmallows!
Forget the Peeps for Easter! I'll just eat my Dandies!

My Poor Aching Feet and My New Vegan Footwear

I'm going to spare you the long story about how I hurt my feet.  I really just want to show off my new vegan shoes.  But, here's a tip:

Don't wear these while walking around New York City!

For 6 months, I've had pain in the balls of my feet and in my toes.  It's excruciating to walk for long periods of time, and sometimes my feet feel like they're going numb.  I finally went to the doctor this week and I have Capsulitis.  Basically, inflammation in my joints and tight Achilles tendons.  I was given metatarsal pads to wear in my shoes (pictured below, number 1) and exercises to do at home.

Before I scheduled my doctor's appointment, I remembered that I bought some amazing (and pretty) flip flops last year.  The soles are made out of yoga mats! I wondered if this company (Sanuk) had regular shoes with yoga mat soles.  I found these "Ohm My" slip-on shoes (pictured above, number 2) on Amazon, and they come in cute colors!  After consulting my facebook friends, I picked the silver color for spring.  All of the "Ohm My" shoes have metallic threads, which you can kind of see in the pictures.

I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe, so I ordered a 6 from Sanuk because they don't carry half sizes. They fit perfectly!  The only problem is that I have skinny ankles, so my heels were slipping out of them when I walked.  I picked up some no-show socks (pictured above, number 3) and heel cushions (pictured above, number 4), and that fixed the problem! No more slipping off!

My shoes came in this cool bag made from tapioca starch.  I love that Sanuk is an environmentally friendly company!

They even sent a sample of what the footbed is made of.   You can see that they are really cushioned!

I love my new shoes!  They're vegan and vegetarian.  I have been wearing them all week, and the pain in my feet is significantly less when I wear them.

If you're having problems with your feet, or even if you're not, check out the Sanuk yoga mat shoes!  You'll feel like you're walking on clouds!

100% Pure Nail Polish Review and Giveaway!

You all know that I have recently been trying some products from 100% Pure.  Their makeup is fruit-dyed and free of "synthetic chemicals, chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, artificial colors, harsh detergents or any other unhealthy toxins." Their products are also vegan.

I received three creamy nail polishes from 100% Pure with an order that I placed, and these are the best nail polishes I've ever used!  What I like most about them is that they're "free of the common carcinogens in most nail polish: formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, camphor, and formaldehyde resin." Yes, unfortunately a lot of nail polishes contain formaldehyde.

The colors I received are:

Juice : A bright coral pink, perfect for summer!

I Heart You : A peachy pink natural everyday color with a bit of shimmer!

Jam: A cool-toned berry red.  This color is very dark and perfect for fall and winter!

This is why I like them so much:

1. They apply so smoothly!  They are definitely creamy!  The ones without shimmer are a lot more creamy and are the ones I like best.

2. I only needed one coat.  I put two on anyway, but one would have been fine!

3. The polish lasts for about 5 days without chipping.  This is without a bottom or top coat!

4. These polishes are really shiny!!

5. When it's time to take it off, it comes off so easily.  There's no scrubbing and scrubbing!

$12.00 is more than I usually spend on nail polishes, but I think these are well worth it, if you have the money.  I know that not everyone can spend that much, so I have decided to give one bottle away!  I'm giving away a bottle of the "I Heart You" color, because it's a light everyday color.  I also think this would be perfect for a little girl, and you don't have to worry about putting toxic ingredients on her nails.  You can wear this as a sheer or build it up with a few coats.

The contest starts today and ends at midnight on April 2.  I will announce the winner on facebook and twitter.  You can enter multiple times by completing the steps below. **This is for U.S. residents only, please!**

a Rafflecopter giveaway

The product I'm giving away has been provided by 100% Pure.  All photos on this post are credited to 100% Pure.

Green Target Haul

Target has really been making an effort to carry more natural products.  They have a whole aisle dedicated to natural beauty products. I love Burt's Bees products, and I'm so happy I can find them there! The J.R. Watkins products are free of a lot of harmful ingredients, but some of them, like the dish soap for example, do contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which helps create the suds. I haven't looked closely at the body products (like body washes) to see what they contain.  Maybe it's just the cleaning products? This website is helpful if you're looking for products that don't contain sls. The Pomegranate and Acai smells so amazing, and it's scented with fruit extracts, not fragrances. Here's my little Target haul from this week!
